About Directional Non-Force Technique (DNFT)
The Directional Non-Force Technique (DNFT) is a specialized form of Chiropractic treatment. It is the original low force technique developed in the 1920s.
DNFT uses thumb pressure and a muscular impulse from the doctor's elbows to effect the correction of subluxations which are misalignments of the joints of the spine and extremities. There is no high force application and no "cracking" sound. DNFT corrections are safe for 2 week old infants and patients with disc herniations.
Treatment sessions take 20-25 minutes. There is no pain associated with the correction itself, but some areas of your body may be sore because of the problems that exist there. Since DNFT corrections are extremely specific, treatment is not done through clothing. Patients are asked to wear a heavy white cotton gown which allows access to the spine. Privacy is maintained at all times.
What to Expect During Treatment
DNFT doctors analyze the spine and extremities for subluxation using pressure testing directly on the body which mildly increases the stress on an irritated area. This leads to a response in the body that is called the reactive leg reflex in which one leg temporarily elevates 1-2 inches. This is a dynamic event which is different from the static short leg measurement used by other techniques. The leg elevation only lasts for the duration of each test. DNFT tests bone and soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, discs, etc.). Because the body itself is indicating the location and order of severity in which problems occur, DNFT usually requires substantially fewer treatments than traditional Chiropractic. Different problems are corrected at each visit as the body moves toward greater stability. Maintaining this stability through periodic correction, strengthening and lifestyle changes is essential for maintaining function.
About My Practice
- Determine the origin and nature of your problem and educate you about the issues involved.
- Provide individualized, efficient treatment
- Refer you to other treatments/therapies that may enhance your recovery
- Help you find appropriate treatment if I am not the person to help you
The treatment I provide is only a portion of what is required to resolve most issues. My treatment is only as good as a patient's willingness to follow through on recovery recommendations. I view your treatment as a joint effort.
The Terrible Topic of Money
I have chosen to not participate in insurance networks. I cannot have a third party dictate your care and my treatment. I want to have a relationship with you. I realize that this presents a difficulty for some people. However, I make every effort to keep my fees reasonable and to work as quickly as possible. In many cases, the copays you would accrue for a higher number of visits would be greater than or equal to the cost of my care.
We accept only cash or checks as payment. Most HSA accounts will issue a book of checks as well as a debit card.
